Pumpkinhead – Cullen Bunn

“For each of Man’s evils, a special demon exists.”
For thirty years, the demon of vengeance has been still, its corpse buried in a pumpkin patch graveyard in the hills. But when a reckless driver accidentally kills a pair of children, the creature is called up once more. This time, though, the monster’s intended target is protected by a cruel backwoods crime family. They hatch their own supernatural plans for dealing with Pumpkinhead. For each of man’s sins, a special demon exists, and when seven infernal creatures roam the hills and the hollows, no one–guilty or otherwise–is safe.
Plus! A backup story about everyone’s favorite, Haggis, by Cullen Bunn and Kyle Strahm!

I got an E-ARC from Netgally, this did not influence my review.

Seeing as it is Halloween month I figured I ask for this just for fun. This is a different version to the Pumpkinhead Headless Horsemen most people know. This is also the Demon of Vengeance that can be called up when the occasion arises. You can bet your ass shit is going to go down if you piss someone off that has a link to the supernatural…

I saw the first film many years ago. I cant say it was particularly scary, but it had certain atmosphere to it. I jumped at a chance to read this comic though, revisit some childhood memories I forgot I had, then found out it would’ve been better if I left it forgotten…

I am not sure what it is I am missing, I was not even aware that there were more than one film of ye olde Pumpikins. What I do know is that, if you want to spark some interest for new readers and keep the old fans entertained, you have to make an effort to engage both on a certain level. Sure you do not need prior knowledge to read this comic, but it would come in handy in certain parts. They did write some small back story of where this Haggis person was supposed to have come from, but it was not made clear till later in the comic as to why her sisters did not like her too much. She was a bit dull for my taste, do not include a caption like “everybody’s favorite” then go and write her stupid, that is just dumb. I understand the reason for this late “revelation”, it was well thought out, but I don’t think it was well executed.

Meet some of the SINS…

I do not know everything there is to know regarding Pumpkinhead, I do know this, you don’t fck with someone who happens to be the Demon of Vengeance…

Art wise, this was oké. Apart from the fact that that I feel they gave Pumpkinhead too much of a Xenomorph look on the cover. That would put me of quite a bit if I was a die- hard fan. Another thing that irked me in one of the speech bubbles was the fact that they called out the “Sins”of which sorrow was a part of too. Uuum, If I am a sinner because I became sad at times, I do not think I would want to be part of your cult, you crazy old bat, because the world happens to be a sorrow inducing environment at times, or am I already in hell?… Some of the bubbles should be revised before going into final print is all I am trying to get at…

I gave old Puddingkins a messy 3 out of 5 stars on GR. It comes recommended to those considering themselves fans of the film and franchise. I will not be spending money on a money grab attempt, no sir, not I! In fact, I might go visit Haggis myself and release somp PHD Vengeance upon those culprits, if only I could find a way not to turn into the demon myself.

Hope you have a great day!
