Metal Monday – Tool – Fear Inoculum

Welcome to Metal Monday. Today’s song has some how been “trending”, whatever that means, all over the Internet. It is considered one for the history books… 2019 Has been exceptionally kind in giving us (read me) new songs by bands that have been around for 20 or more years. Tool being one of my favorite bands of all time and the fact that I was able to see them live a little over two months ago, have also confirmed that there will be an album at the end of August. This means, for those that are not in the loop, that after just over 13 years, Tool will be releasing new material. The hype around this news brings me immense joy and makes me exceedingly proud to be able to share this song with you all today. Tool have also released their whole discography on Youtube, something they have never done before. Fear Inoculum released on the seventh of August and has around 5 million views already. That speaks volumes about how eager people have been to experience new auditorial assaults. This song does not assault the auditoria at all, in fact, it feels like it brings a calmness that I have not experienced in quite a while. I will forever be grateful for being part of this small little piece of history.

Fear Inoculum is a song just over the ten minute mark. It does not feel like a ten minute song tho. I love the effort the guys have put into the music and I love everything about this. There are parts that feel like it comes from older songs, but seen from a different angle. There are so many good parts to this song. The vocals are clear and beautiful, the drumming is superb, I do not even know what to say about the guitar and bass work. It just all comes together so nicely.

Should you have the time, I highly recommend you give this song a listen.

Lyrics:

Immunity, long overdue
Contagion, I exhale you
Naive, I opened up to you
Venom in mania
Now, contagion, I exhale you

The deceiver he says you belong to me
You don’t want to breathe the light of the others
Fear the light
Fear the breathe
Fear the others for eternity
But I hear them now inhale the clarity
Hear the venom, the venom in what you say — inoculated
Bless this immunity
Bless this immunity
Bless this immunity

Exhale, expel
Recast my tale
Weave my allegorical elegy

Enumerate
All that I’m to do
Calculating steps away from you
My own mitosis
Growing through delusion from mania

Exhale, expel
Recast my tale with my allegorical elegy

Forfeit all control
You poison
You spectacle

Exorcise the spectacle
Exorcise the malady
Exorcise the disparate
Poison for eternity
Purge me and evacuate
The venom and the fear that binds me

Unveil now
Lift away
I see you running
Deceiver chased away
A long time coming

    1. Yeah, the fan base can be total tools at most times, everyone thinking themselves so fucking clever, i am not one of those tho, I am some one who likes the music and keeps quiet about the rest…

  1. Great song! I have of course heard of the band Tool, but I never listened to any of their songs before hearing this clip. That said, I usually listen to more of the gothic/death metal type of bands, so there is that. But have to say I like the sounds of this song. Thanks for sharing it! 😊

      1. Ooh…good question: Let’s see: Shape of despair is one (especially the song Written in my Scars, it gives me goosebumps every singel time). The other is my alltime favorite band Anathema, although admittedly lately they have become a little bit too how to say this “pop-oriented” to my taste. Still doesn’t mean I don’t like them anymore though 😊

      2. Have not listened to Anathema in a long time… Shape of Despair the name I have heard of before, but not really looked up ever, maybe now is a good time. Thanks for the recommendations.

      3. Anathema was my alltime favorite band, but as I said, they are now a little bit too far of their original metal roots for me to still enjoy them as much as I did in the old days.
As for Shape of Despair: just looked up the song I was talking about on Youtube: here you go 😊

      4. If it wasn’t for a band or bands like My Dying Bride and most recently Ahab, I would normally have given this a skip… I now have some new tunes to listen too as I am typing my next review.
