September 2019 Recap

Guys,

I can’t believe we are in October already again. Is this year flying past/going downhill too fast or is it just me? September was the month Milou and I decided to go on a small break. It stretched from the 7th to the 15th and it was a well needed rest period seeing as I managed to overexert my right shoulder. I am still experiencing some difficulties that are influencing my work duties, but I try to power through it. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right?

Getting to my blogging activities, seeing as I was on “holiday” I ended up not reading as much as I thought I would as we also went for a walk or two discovering some new parts of Holland. I haven’t even been able to post about our time off as I started working the day after we came back home. I did feel like I needed another week or two to recover, but a person always feels like that after a holiday…

Here is what you might have missed if you where similarly busy as we were in the month of September:

Book Reviews:
I am happy with the amount of books I managed to get through this month. It seems I broke my reading slump after finishing a particularly difficult to get through book. I am happy that I managed to push through it and see it through to the end. Some of these books were also over the 500 page mark so I am really proud of my self for doing so well. September also saw the emergence of Salty Mc Dave, a character I ended up signing one of my reviews off, I feel that Mc Dave might might an occasional appearance here on my blog. I have used other personalities for reviews before so he might be joining the ranks as a permanent feature for bad books.

Army of skinArmy Of Skin- Morgan K. Tanner
Reviewed a fellow blogger’s debut novel, it was as disturbing as the cover implies. I had fun though as it contained quite a lot of macabre dark humor, at least that’s the way I read it…

soulwarsSoul Wars- Josh Reynolds
This was the difficult read I was talking about. It took me nearly 5 months to complete. It is not a bad book, its just me not feeling the Age of Sigmar vibe just yet. I have started a short story collection recently that have me kinda wanting to revisit the setting again. We will see how it pans out.

punkPunk Mumbo Vol. 1 – Cullen Bunn, Adam Gorham
Salty Mc Dave, nuff said…

prismThe Black Prism – Brent Weeks
Up until page 200 or so I was going to go all Salty again but the book did a complete 360 degree on my views on certain characters. Milou has book two on her shelf and I am going to try get through that either before the end this year or next year. No pressure…

picturesMoving Pictures – Terry Pratchett
The late Great Sir T.P. He could do no wrong in my eyes. This was not my most favorite book but it contained some of my favorite characters. I am going to continue reading Discworld novels on the on and of occasion.

Sea-of-Rust-197x300Sea of Rust – C Robert Cargill
A surprizing good read for me personally. Gave it a 4 out of 5…

Metal Monday:
I missed one Monday as it was the day I started work again after the short break we took, totally forgot to post on the day. We did manage to see Within Temptation live on the Saturday evening. They are from The Netherlands and I understand why they are said to be one of the best Dutch exports concerning metal. I am also real happy my phone managed to time one of the flame blasts so well, they had a lot of fire works on display during the show.

September was a particularly good month for Metal in general, actually this whole year has been good to metal heads world wide. For me it started on August 31st with the release of a much anticipated Tool album, its been 13 years since the release of Ten Thousand Days, I believe this might be their last album and saw it as a departure note rather than a “here, look at what we have been up too” album for the fans. September also saw the release of a brand new Korn album called The Nothing, I do not know how many people still follow this band, I have been observing from the sidelines for the last couple of years. Having the news that Johnathan Davis lost his wife earlier this year in the back of my head and hearing this album I cannot help but feel the loss and feelings he is going through. It is has some pretty good tracks on it and I can hear some definite throw backs to older albums. Cult of Luna also dropped no less than 5 days ago. Although I can say that I totally understand that this post rock/sludge metal will not be for every one, it certainly had me banging my neck into a stupor at one of their live shows in June. I am a happy fan is all I am saying…

Entropia- Poison
Cult of Luna- Lay Your Head to Rest
Rush -YYZ
Within Temptation – The Reckoning

Not too much happened in September regarding new books required. I feel proud that I managed to hold of from buying anything new. That is a good thing though as I have way more than enough at the moment to get through. I did receive some books I am exited about from Net Galley, but will have to do a re-read of another before I will get to them. I already finished one of the books on there so I am happy with it as it is.

New Additions to My TBR…

That was my September in blogging. Having them listed like this it makes me feel like I did not blog enough, but then again I have just reached over the 300 mark in posts. I am proud of that as it means I have posted quite a lot if you take into account that I celebrated my 200th post earlier this year… January 26 to be exact… Says a lot about my activity on here I think…

Hope you all have a great October every one!

  1. Salty McDave definitely needs to make a come back some time. He was awesome 😉

Definitely give your shoulder the rest it needs. Hope it heals up ok.

I just pre-ordered the final book in the Black Prism series by Weeks and it should arrive by the end of the month. I’m seriously thinking of throwing out my reading schedule to make that book happen 😀
