Blurp:

As Elio lies stricken under a powerful curse, the only way his friends Thanis, Alish, Kiri and Kaspar can cure him is to venture into the Forest of the Ancients. Rumour tells of a race of healers who dwell there, the mysterious tree-folk known as the Sylvaneth, but are they allies or enemies…?

Our story takes place right after book 2. Little Elio that took center stage there has become ill due to contact with some Skaven Warpstone, his friends do not know what to do apart from follow their hearts and little knowledge of the fact that there might be healers in the Forest of the Ancients. So they set of to go there in an airship built by one of the little engineer Alish. In this book the torch gets handed to two characters: Kiri and Thanis, Thanis getting more page time as Kiri was already important in book 1. Thanis also has a little prologue of her own much like the one Elio had in book 2, but under different circumstances.

Seeing as this book is pretty much the same as the ones that has gone before there is not too much to say about it other than that I like it for what it is. A book more written for middle grade people than adults but where adults can also have fun reading it to their kids, or read it through the eyes of a child as we are all just small children trapped in adult bodies… Or is it just me?

I gave Forest of the Ancients a 3 out of 5 on GR and recommend it to those that are familiar with the setting it takes place in. This being said the book does a great job at telling any newcomer a little more about certain creatures you might encounter in a small little index at the back of the book. I love these even more for the fact that I know a little more about the creatures that I have read about in a previous book and had no idea of… The art work is also done by the same person as the other 2 books.

I thought book 3 was going to be the last in the series, but at the end I saw that there might be a fourth or fifth even still coming. Maybe I will be as lucky with them as I have been thanks to Net Galley. With all that said I would like to give Black Library and NG a warm big thank you for letting me read these ARCs before hand.

  1. What age group would you say it’s for (except for boys in adult bodies 😉) – i.e. could you read it from Middle Grade or is it rather something for full teenagers and up?
