Metal Monday – Soulfly – Eye for an Eye

Welcome to the last Metal Monday for August. Today’s song is a small dedication to my recent review of The Broken Eye by Brent Weeks. Eye for an Eye is the first song on the first Soulfly album that came out in 1998. Front man Max Cavalera who is famous for his hand in starting Sepultura, took a permanent break away from them after some disputes and infighting. Soulfly was started after Max lost his Stepson Dana, who was murdered and the perpetrators were never caught. Max was angry, depressed and bitter and it shows within each and every song on this album, apart from the instrumentals. I used to collect all the albums and they were almost on constant repeat during my high school years, I used to learn for exams with Max blasting his vocal cords away in the background…

Eye for an Eye surely holds a lot of memories for me personally and I am glad I get to share it with you today. Vocals are standard Max Cavalera signature with him not really shouting as much as talking loudly. The song is just all round great in my opinion…

Hope you enjoy.

Lyrics:

I am what I create
Believing in my fate
Integrity is my name
All that I am doing
Can never be ruined
My song remains insane

Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye for an eye for an eye
Fuck

Can’t you watch my back
Can’t you let my heart
Believe what they have fired ?
To reunite the tribe
To find a better way
Fucking envy changes everything

Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye for an eye for an eye

That’s right!

I hate to borrow
You don’t understand
Pain, hate, pain
To born again
Arise again
I believe it’s the only way

Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye for an eye for an eye!

    1. Not like im going to stone you for not being a huge fan… Must say my music tastes have evolved in a totally different direction. I do like coming back now and then to revisit an oldie.
