November 2020 Recap

I can not believe today is already the first day of the last month of the year. December is upon us, I turn 35 in 19 days, five days after its Christmas, 6 days after that, the end of what might hands down have been one of the shittiest years of all our lives world wide. So much has happened, so many crazy things, the world feels more and more like it has finally lost it’s patience with us and given us all detention, with possible extensions if we do not start taking better care. November saw Milou and I go back into a second Lockdown for two weeks. I do not know if it was because of that that I had a little bit more posts than normal, or the fact that I was hard pressed to write reviews of books I finished the month before. As of the writing of this post, I still have five books that I need to do reviews on and I have no way of knowing how or what I will be writing about them, but rest assured, they will be going up, albeit a bit later this month. A result I will only be posting the links of the books I have already written a review for and brag about my book count by the end of December…

Book Reviews:

I count 7 book reviews for November among the likes of a good month. I am happy with that total. I actually finished another book at work yesterday morning, but that does not count for now. I have reached a stage in my life that I am totally comfortable reviewing a book as a “read”book even if was an audio book. I have had some great fun with some of them, even Salty been nice enough to push out a review this month…

shadwell shadowsSherlock Holmes and the Shadwell Shadows
I have started a new Sherlock Holmes series that will be continuing my Sundays with Sherlock corner. I was happy with this, Watson gives us some pretty nasty shockers in stating that what ever we read of the original Sherlock Holmes was a lie and that there were more supernatural elements involved in their cases.
PredatorThe Predador
I accidentally read this wrongly as there was a prequel novel that went before this. I do not understand how people can screw up a much loved franchise of mine so badly. There were some cool parts in this story, but it was really poorly thought out. It put me of wanting to even try to watch the movie.

cover mechanicumMechanicum
Book 9 in the Horus Heresy series, a semi solid entry when you sift through some plot points that did not completely tie together. It did give me a better perspective on how the Dark Mechanicum came to be, yet I would’ve loved more Mechanicum and less viewpoints from humans.

DraculaDracula
Dracula was partner read I did with Milou during October, we finished it early in November, but I only got around to writing a review later. I liked parts of this classic, most it was awful repetitive. This was also the start of the Milou and Dave note exhange, a little something that I think might become a feature when doing partner reads with her again.
SlimeTTIGRAA Slime
I shortened the heading of That Time I got reincarnated as a Slime: Trinity in Tempest so it could fit in the Header part of the review post. A little Manga I got through Net Galley and that I had a lot of fun going through.
predator huntersThe Predator: Hunters and Hunted
The prequel to Predator I spoke about further up. It was what it was, a prequel to a novelization I already was only enjoying some what. Focusing more on the forming of Star Gazer than actually focusing on the Predator, you know, like the title and cover makes you want to believe… Salty did a good job speaking his mind on this one. Glad to have him back on the team. I hope he will behave, even if only for a short while…
dracula's childDracula’s Child
A modernized prequel to the original Dracula novel, I seem to have gone a bit hard on it, but I stand by my opinions, the cover is pretty cool at least and it was interesting as well as a great feat on the author’s side to have come up with the concept, just some parts in the execution and some deplorable character choices grated on me a bit… Also contains Milou and Dave notes, Milou can’t stop calling me her pretty potato, I am sure I went a bit overboard at the start of the review. At least I had fun doing so.

Metal Monday:
For November, my mind was still a little stuck on Halloween so I might have gone a bit overboard with music to potentially scare the crap out of people. I also just posted what I wanted, I do not know if I will make December a themed month again, we will have to see.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star- Dead Space Rendition
Children of the Omnissiah- Guillaume David
Paradise Lost- Darker Thoughts
Dimmu Borgir- Allegiance
Draconian- Night Visitor

Life/ Personal
Not much happened life wise, apart from Milou and I going into Lockdown for the second time, a shorter time, a time we were better prepared for than the first time at least. I was happy to have been given a breather as I was reaching critical burn out mode. Being irritated and angered by the smallest of things as well as not being the most friendliest of person at work. Some other cool stuff happened though and I put one of those up as my Recap picture…

Janice Duke was kind enough to send me printed copies of the snow owl pictures I sent to her a few months ago. I have given the second pair of prints to the care takers of these beautiful creatures and they were shocked as well as very pleased that some one would do something so amazing for a complete stranger. We are all happy with our owls.

Mister Postman…
Paired Banner Angry Colours
Inquisitor Jenn and the Word Eater…
Jenn, my Horus Heresy reading partner has been working on some banners we will be using from book 10 onwards. I am extremely pleased with these so far and can not wait to use them. So far Jenn has finished her read of Tales of Heresy, but I need to still get through 4 short stories. As far as I know we both have had a good time with it so far which bodes well for a smiley banner we can use.

Some New NG Titles…
Title says it all, I got three new NG titles…

That was my blog for November, I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. I can only hope that I get time to get my reviews for finished books out before the end of the year hits me. I hope you all will have a great December all things considering. I hope to get good news that we are at least allowed to see our families for Christmas.

Hope you are all doing well.

  1. 2020 has been pretty shite overall, but at least there’s books and music for distraction, and the good people some of us are lucky enough to have in our lives. I’d be going crazy without my other half, family and friends, and it’s been nice to make a few new friends online 😊

Really glad the owls made you and the care taker happy! It’s nice to be nice, especially when things have been so shite for us all. Putting some good vibes out there feels good 😎

  2. Dave, don’t you worry, you are WAY prettier than a potato. I know because every potato I’ve seen has been butt ugly 😉

I too am glad to see Sunday with Sherlock back and I hope it can last through some of ’21.

Turning 35 eh? Man, you are OLD. Next thing you know, you’ll be farting whenever you stand up 😀
